Breck Grigas graduated from Hinsdale Central in 1976 as one of Illinois’ top all around gymnasts on three state champion teams, helping to shatter the national record in 1975. He was an All State gymnast, as well as a high school All American. Breck continued his athletic career at Northern Illinois University, graduating with four school records, taking All Around honors 21 times as an All American and team MVP. He became the first Hinsdale Central gymnast to become an Olympian as a member of the 1980 team, and toured the country with the U.S. National team, also competing in London. Professionally, Breck was hired by LaPreferida in their produce division in Chicago’s historic South Water Market, later becoming President of the Chicago International Produce Market. During the 1990’s Breck worked with the city of Chicago and developers to move the South Water Market to its new location in the Pilsen neighborhood. Today Breck works for Strube Celery and Vegetable, specializing in Tropical and Ethnic produce. Breck was a member of the Burnham Park Yacht Club, serving in several Board positions, and has been elected Commodore twice. Breck and his wife, Diane, make their home in Batavia, and have two children and one grandchild. |
