Herb Feris ’63 is one of the most successful athletes to graduate from Hinsdale. Among his many athletic accomplishments, Herb was a key member of the 1961 and 1962 undefeated Varsity Football Champions, as well as the 1959 and 1960 undefeated Frosh/Soph Champions. In 1962, Herb was the team’s MVP, and was selected to the All Conference, All Area, All State, and All America teams.

Herb also excelled at baseball, earning All Conference and All Area honors as MVP of the of the 1962 high school team, in addition to playing from 1961 to 1963 for the Clarendon Hills Lions semi-pro baseball team.

In 1963, Herb was signed to the New York Yankees farm system, where he stayed for four years and met and played with many major league greats, including Johnny Bench, Steve Carleton, Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford, just to name a few.

Herb is also a coach, having helped countless young ballplayers through Westmont Red Sox Semi-Pro Baseball, Westmont Little League, Westmont Babe Ruth, College of DuPage baseball, Lincoln Way High School, and most recently as an assistant hitting coach at Hinsdale Central from 2014-2016. In addition, Herb managed the Westmont Community Fitness program from 1991-2008, where he increased membership and helped cement long term viability for the facility.

He also served his country, serving in the United States Air Force Air National Guard for six years.

Herb lives in Westmont, in the home his parents built in 1951, where he grew up. He has three grown children, and six grandchildren.
