Dr. Moran, born and raised in Hinsdale, graduated from Hinsdale Central in 1978. He was a member of the Varsity Swim Team at which time, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. After a difficult few of years treatment, which included surgeries and chemotherapy, Brian became motivated to pursue a career in medicine. He earned his undergraduate degree in philosophy from Illinois Benedictine University ('83). After graduating from Loyola Stritch School of Medicine ('87), he then completed his Radiation Oncology residency at Loyola-Hines Medical Center in Maywood, IL ('91). Brian spent his early career treating cancer patients at Lutheran General, Alexian Brothers and Good Samaritan Hospital. Having performed prostate brachytherapy (radiation therapy in the form of seed implants) since 1994, Brian founded Chicago Prostate Cancer Center in 1997. This institution is internationally recognized as a leader in the field of prostate brachytherapy, providing patients with comprehensive care in a state-of-the-art facility, with the best equipment and staff in a patient-centered facility. It has the distinction of being the busiest center of its kind in the world. An expert practitioner of prostate brachytherapy, Dr. Moran has performed over 13,000 prostate seed implants. Additionally, he loves to teach and has led a brachytherapy training course for physicians, nurses, physicists and dosimetrists; since '97, he has trained over 500 medical professionals on the art and science of brachytherapy world¬wide. Dr. Moran is a member of multiple specialty societies including the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, the American Brachytherapy Society and is certified by the American Board of Radiology. His emphasis has been on improving quality of life for patients with prostate cancer, while achieving the highest cure rates possible. Dr. Moran is a frequent speaker at professional meetings, and has authored over fifty-five publications in peer-reviewed medical journals and textbooks. He also leads a monthly support group for prostate cancer patients and families, one of the few in the country where a physician is always present. Dr. Moran is on the board of directors for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Chicago. This non-profit organization is dedicated to improving quality of care and of life by funding patient support programs, clinical research as well as professional and public education. As a lifelong Hinsdale resident, Brian is committed to the health and wellness of his community. In addition to his role as Medical Director at Chicago Prostate Cancer Center, Dr. Moran is also the Director of Radiation Oncology at Adventist Hinsdale and LaGrange Hospitals, as well as DuPage Medical Group Cancer Center. Away from work, Brian enjoys time with his wife, Betsy, and their children: Kate, Jack, Christopher and Nora. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, golfing and is an avid supporter of the Red Devils. |
