Dr. Janika P. Ertl '73, a Hinsdale native, was a 4 year member of the swim team and helped HCHS win a state swimming championship his senior year. Janika attended Southern Methodist University on an athletic scholarship. He graduated with honors as a pre-med major and became a nationally ranked swimmer. He attended Loyola Medical School in Chicago, interned at USC Medical Center, and completed a one year general surgery residency at St. Joseph Hospital with Northwestern University. A rare contribution of skill, creativity, positive attitude, integrity, goal setting and strong work ethics contributed and led to Janika’s success as a national level swimmer, his remarkable six year career as a orthopedic surgeon in the US Navy and today as the head of orthopedic surgery at the Indiana University Medical Center at Indianapolis, Indiana (IUPU). Janika lives in Carmel Indiana with his wife Julie and three children, Stephanie, Jani and Karchi. |
