I was born on January 7, 1946 in the Hinsdale Hospital. I lived at 560 N. Grant St. and attended the public schools in Hinsdale until I graduated from Hinsdale Township High School in 1964. I was in the top 10% of my graduating class of 684. My big interest was sports and I lettered in 3 sports, Track & Field, Basketball and Cross Country. In basketball, my senior year, I was selected for the All West Suburban Conference team and I was voted Most Valuable Player by my teammates. In Track, I ran the 120 yd. high hurdles and did the long jump. I was All-State in track due to my 3rd-place finish in the long jump at the Illinois State Meet. Unfortunately, due to a hurdle collision in the semi-finals of the high hurdles at the State Meet, I did not qualify for the finals race. Awards: At graduation time, I received the Jim Carmignani award for sports achievement and leadership. I accepted a full-ride athletic scholarship to the University of Illinois for four years to run track. My events were 120 yd. high hurdles, 440 yd. Intermediate hurdles, long jump and the triple jump. In my senior year, I qualified for the National indoor Meet at Cobo Arena in Detroit in the 60 yd high hurdles. In the spring, I qualified for the Outdoor meet at the University of California, in Berkley, in the 120 yd high hurdles and the 440 yd. intermediate hurdles. I did not place in either of those meets. Very good competition! I graduated with Honors from U. of Illinois in 1968 in the Pre-Med program with a major in Zoology. |
