Neil Krupicka was captain of the gymnastics Team at Hinsdale Central and MVP (63-67) where he led Hinsdale Central to its first WSC Conference team championship. Upon graduation from SIU in 1971, he began teaching and coaching back at Hinsdale Central. He started the Student trainer program which is now in the curriculum. During his 34 years at Hinsdale Central he was assistant boys the first 2 years then head the next 32. He assisted the girls program for 4 years before taking over as head coach in 1985. Along with Cindy his wife, they further developed and instituted the age group developmental system, unique to a high school gymnastic program. That concept launched the Hinsdale Gymnastics Club. This USA gymnastics program became the stepladder for youngsters who would eventually be Hinsdale “Red Devil” Gymnasts. His 3 children were in all in these gymnastics programs, plus golf, track, cheerleading, and soccer, with the girls becoming High School All Americans and MVP. The Krupicka Family was featured in the Chicago Tribune in 1996 as “the first family of Illinois Gymnastics”. In 2010 the “Krupicka Invitational” was created in their honor. Some of Mr. Krupicka’s accolades include 76’ / 91’ / 92’ / 94’ / 05, / 06 Illinois Boys Gymnastics “Coach of the Year” 96’ Illinois Girls Gymnastics “Coach of the Year” 76’ and 94’, National High School Boys Gymnastics “Coach of the year” 94’ Illinois Boys Gymnastics Hall of Fame 06’ Illinois Girls Gymnastics Hall of Fame Some of the Accomplishments of his teams and Individuals include, 23 Conference, 39 Regional, 25 Sectional Team Championships 32 State Team appearances, 16 State Trophies, 7 State Team Championships 19 National H.S. Gymnasts, 2 National Team Championships 1 Olympic Gymnast, 4 NCAA Champion Gymnasts 90 Individual Conference Champions 120 State Finalists 350 High School All American Among other interest, Mr. Krupicka has run multiple Marathons and Triathlons in his spare time. He was HC assistant girl’s golf coach for 5 years, of which 3 teams went down State. He also was President, VP, and Treasurer of the Illinois HSGCA and coached 18 Illinois High School Teams at the National High School Championships. Mr. Krupicka also managed the swimming pool in the summers at Butterfield CC 75’-84’ and then Ruth Lake CC 85’ – 2005 as well as summer gymnastics camp at Hinsdale Central simultaneously. He had a private gymnastics gym for a short time from 1976 – 1984. Neil and Cindy are happily retired in the Mountains of Tucson Arizona. |
